Women's Volleyball; Men's Soccer Turn Focus to Region Tournaments

Manhattan, KS - After securing conference tournament championships to match their regular season conference titles, both the women's volleyball team and the men's soccer team are headed to their respective NCCAA SW Regional tournaments this week.

On the volleyball court, the ladies have secured the #4 overall seed and will play this coming Thursday in Joplin, Mo. Their opponent is currently TBA as the 5-7 seeds are not yet set. The tournament will begin on Thursday November 7, with quarterfinal play and continue on to Friday where winners will advance to semi-finals and then the championship in the same day. On the year, the Thunder have gone 3-3 in region play with victories over Barclay College, Ozark Christian College and SW Adventist University. MCC is currently sitting at #8 in the national coaches poll and #9 in the NCCAA power rating. 

Freshman Brenna Flax currently leads the NCCAA in hitting % at .349 on 415 total attacks while senior Tess Eblin is #4 in the country in assists per set with 8 per. As a team, the ladies are currently #4 in the nation in kills per set at 11.05. The Thunder are 16-9 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. 

On the pitch, the men's soccer team begins their quest for a return to the national tournament on Monday as the #3 seed in the NCCAA SW Region. They will play host to the #6 seed, Arlington Baptist University, at 3:00 pm at Anneburg Park. They begin their run after posting a region record of 4-1 during the regular season. Their only set back came against the #2 seed, Kansas Christian College, on September 24 when they lost 3-1. Their match with the #1 seed, Randall University, was cancelled on October 26th in Moore, Oklahoma due to inclement weather. Should the Thunder knock off the Patriots on Monday they will advance to the region semi-finals in Joplin, Mo on November 8 at 3:00 pm against the Falcons from Kansas Christian. 

The Thunder are currently #6 in the NCCAA Coaches Poll and #5 in the Power Rating. The team is #4 in the nation in total goals scored with 63 and sophomore Nate Awbrey is #7 in the country in total assists with 10.
