Lady Thunder Fall to Bethel College

North Newton, KS - The Thunder traveled to North Newton, KS this weekend to take on Bethel College (NAIA). It was a competitive four set match, but ultimately the Thresher's came out on top. MCC lost by score of 18-25, 25-21, 14-25 and 21-25.

"We never gave up and fought to the last point," said Coach Sanders. "We play these NAIA games to push us and prepare us for tougher competition at our level later in the season. Ultimately, the team rose up when we needed to and didn't give up. We had moments of really great volleyball, but also moments where we struggled. We have to work toward staying consistent, mentally tough and together as a team throughout the entire match."

Our offensive player of the game was junior outside hitter Katherine Simon. Simon finished with 9 kills and a .280 attack percentage. Defensively, she also offered 5 digs and 1 block. "Katherine was the spark for our team tonight, she put down kills at just the right times and hit shots all throughout the match that kept Bethel on their toes. I was so proud of her effort this afternoon," added Coach Sanders.

Next up for the Lady Thunder will be another match up with an NAIA opponenet, Cottey College. MCC has played Cottey already this season at the Spikefest Tournament. It was a 5 set battle, with MCC losing by just two points in the 5th set. The match will be Tuesday, September 11 at 6:30pm in the Howie's Activity Center.
