Thunder Split Matches in IA

The Thunder volleyball team had a long travel weekend, with two Midwest Conference College matches in both Dubuque, IA and Ankeny, IA.

First up, was the tied for #1 in the NCCAA Div II volleyball, Emmaus Bible College Eagles. The Eagles were undefeated and brought a strong offense. Unfortunately, it was too much for the Lady Thunder to handle. MCC could not get the offense going and struggled finishing plays. The Lady Eagles controlled each set, taking the match in 3 straight sets.

The next day, MCC traveled back down to Ankeny, IA to take on Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles. Faith was 9-6 coming into the match. A completely different Thunder team showed up for the match!

"it was exciting to see the team rebound from the struggles the night before! We challenged our offense to step up their game and run more plays and move the ball, mix up their shots," said Coach Sanders. "And they did! It was so exciting to see it click in some of their  . We emphasized that a point is a point, no matter how you get it. So it's ok to mix up strong attacks with roll shots and tips, to keep the other teams defense on their toes."

The Lady Thunder controlled the match and took three staight sets to win the match. While three different hitters each had 9 kills a piece, junior oustide hitter Karly Gibbs also was very strong defensively leading the team with 15 digs.

Next up for MCC, will be a home match versus Barclay College on Tuesday, October 2 at 6:00pm.
