Lady Thunder on a Winning Streak

Manhattan, KS - The Lady Thunder volleyball team are currently on a five-match winning streak after a tough week of matches. This week included two mid-week road matches and one home match.

The week started off with a MCCC conference match up with Barclay College in Haviland, KS. This was the third meeting between MCC and Barclay this season. In the last match, Barclay came away with a 3-0 and the Thunder squad was ready for a rematch! In a tough, well -fought 5 set match, the Lady Thunder defeated Barclay for the second time this season.

On Thursday, the team was on the road again to Lincoln, NE to take on Union College. Earlier this season, MCC defeated Union in 3 quick sets. This time, Union came out strong and took the first set. After some adjustments and taking time to settle in, the Thunder picked up speed and continued to control the rest of the match, winning the next three sets.

Saturday brought the final match of the week, another MCCC conference match against Faith Baptist Bible College. This was the first match between MCC and Faith this season. The first set started off rough with the Thunder digging themselves into an 8-1 hole. After a few serving runs, MCC finally starting rolling and got to game point 24-22 and had the chance to finish the set. However, the Eagles were ready to fight and  made a run winning the first set 28-26. Again, the Thunder squad made some adjustments and settled into a rhythm and took the next three sets to win the match.

"This week was a good test for us and thankfully we ended up on top! We are still trying to find the right rotation and which subs to use that puts the best team on the court. We are finally getting everyone healthy and on the court. So we've been making several mid-match substitutions and adjustments to figure that out. I've been very proud of the team, how they have not given up when we are struggling and how they have been flexible and making changes when needed," said Coach Sanders about the week.

Next up for the Lady Thunder will be a home match against Central Christian College (KS) on Tuesday, 10/10 in the Howies Activity Center.
