2020 Women's Soccer Season Preview

Manhattan, KS - After a rough 2019 campaign that saw the women's soccer team not qualify for post-season play, there is a renewed optimism surrounding the squad at the start of the 2020 season. Back are ten players from last years team, including four seniors, who all saw regular minutes. In are eight newcomers with accolades and experience either at the high school or college level.

"This team will be more experienced and in better shape to compete at the collegiate level," commented Coach Maltseva, "We believe that we should put ourselves in a better position to compete on a daily basis."

Part of that daily competition will come in the form of a newfound depth. This version of the Lady Thunder boast multiple players that can play multiple positions on the field. Seniors Sarah Ward, Davinna Farney and Brittney Scheetz figure to factor into the final line by keeping the ball out of the home net while senior Hannah Park looks to score points for the Thunder either by putting the ball in the goal or by setting up her teammates. Junior goalkeeper Hailey Culp is back while juniors Jordan Lewis and Savannah Farney look to help the team take a major step forward. Sophomores Abby Wright, Elyssa Armstrong and Dakota Wallace all will be pushing for minutes in the starting eleven.

The Lady Thunder will kick off their season this Thursday (9/10) at 12:00 pm as they welcome the 2019 National Runners-up, Grace Christian University (MI), to Manhattan.
