Thunder Start Hot in Conference Play

Manhattan, KS - After a 2-3 start to the regular season and a #8 national ranking the Thunder of Manhattan Christian College stepped into conference play this weekend for two games. On Friday night, MCC welcomed the defending conference champions, Emmaus Bible College, to town for a highly anticipated contest and rematch of the conference championship match from 2018. This game would get off to a furious start that found MCC outshooting Emmaus 21-2 in the opening frame. Despite the high volume of shots the Thunder would not find the back of the net until the second half and the 49' minute mark when Isaiah Frese scored off of an assist from Nate Awbrey. Over the next 25 minutes the Thunder were able to score three more goals off of 13 shots to take the victory 4-0 and earn their first Midwest Christian College Conference win of the season.

On Saturday afternoon the Thunder would host the Eagles from Faith Baptist Bible College and they would pick up right where they left off scoring three goals in the first frame off of 16 shots. Gabe Awbrey would find the range twice in that frame with assists coming from his brother. Cade Pearson would score the other goal of the frame on a penalty kick in the 28th minute. The second half would be more of the same as the Thunder would find two goals from Angel Vasquez to make the final score 5-0.

MCC is now 2-0 in conference play and will welcome the defending NCCAA SW Region Champions, Kansas Christian College, to Manhattan on Tuesday for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
