Men Split Games at Cookson Hills Classic

Kansas, OK - The MCC men's basketball team split a pair of games at the 2019 Cookson Hills Classic as they defeated Dallas Christian 114-90 in their first game and then dropped their second game 97-80, to Kansas Christian College. 

In the opening game against Dallas Christian, the Thunder shot 63% from the field in the first half to take a 56-32 halftime lead. Nate Awbrey led MCC in the first half as he scored 21 points in the opening half. Jordon Davis also had a strong first half scoring 12 points off the bench. In the second half Dallas was able to cut the deficit to 12 points, but MCC was able to push the lead back out and roll to the win. In the second half MCC was led by Alex Mitura as he finished the game with a team-high 28 points, he connected on 6-8 from the three-point line. Six players reached double figures for MCC and all nine players who saw action in the game scored.

In the second game at Cookson MCC dropped a game for the second time this season to Kansas Christian College. The Falcons jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and it was an uphill battle from there for the Thunder. In the first half KCC was able to stretch their lead out to 32-22, but MCC was able to rally and cut the deficit to 40-34 but the Falcons pushed the lead back to 46-37 at the break. In the second half KCC continued their hot shooting from the field and they controlled the game for rest of the way. Chelvin Webb led MCC with 19 points and Nate Awbrey chipped in with 18 points. 

MCC will return to action on January 11 & 12 as they head to Iowa to take on Emmaus Bible College and Faith Baptist Bible College in conference action.
