MCC Men Defeat Calvary

Belton, MO - The MCC men's basketball team went on the road and defeated Calvary University 88-71 on Tuesday. The Thunder found themselve in an early hole as the Warriors jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, and minutes later they were still ahead 18-8. From there MCC was able to gain a little momentum and would outscore Calvary 31-17 for the rest of the half. The offense was keyed by Alex Mitura who connected on six three-pointers in the first half to help MCC gain a 39-35 halftime lead.

In the second half MCC was able to attack the basketball more effectively both in their half court sets and in transition and with just about six minutes remaining MCC had stretched the lead out to eight points. MCC closed the game out in strong fashion to come away with the victory. Mitura led MCC with 25 points on the night, Gabe Awbrey had 21 points, Chelvin Webb had 11 points and 9 rebounds, Nate Awbrey had 11 points and Jordon Davis came off the bench and had 10 points and 6 rebounds. "I was very pleased with our effort tonight, Calvary is a good team and even when they had us down early the guys continued to work hard and got the shots we wanted. Obviously it is helpful when someone get's hot like Alex did tonight, but in the second half we were less reliant on the three so that was good," commented Coach Condra.

MCC will be back in action at home on Friday night against Central Christian College of the Bible at 7pm and then they'll be on the road on Saturday at Randall University who has won the last three NCCAA National Championships.
