Men Win Two in Iowa

The MCC men's basketball team went on the road over the weekend and picked up two conference wins against Emmaus Bible College and Faith Baptist Bible College. 

On Friday night MCC defeated Emmaus 102-84. Emmaus entered the contest winless on the season but they came out strong in the first half and led 40-29 deep into the half. The Thunder were able to close the gap slightly before halftime and they entered the break trailing 53-46. In the second half MCC came out strong as they openend the half on a 24-7 spurt that gave MCC as 70-60 lead. From there MCC was able to stretch the lead out on their way to the victory. Gabe Awbrey led MCC with a career-high 33 points and 10 rebounds, he connected on six three-pointers in the contest. Chelvin Webb scored 24 points and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

Saturday MCC traveled to Faith to take on the Eagles and they came away with the 84-68 win. MCC came out hot and opened up a 16-4 lead against Faith behind hot shooting, as the Thunder hit four three-pointers in the opening minutes. However Faith would not go away and they clawed back into the contest and cut the deficit to 38-36 at the half. In the second half MCC was able to open the lead back to double-digits at 52-41, but Faith once again closed the gap to 55-49 with just under 12 minutes to play. However from there MCC was able to stretch the lead back out and hold on for the victory. Webb led MCC with 27 points, as he connected on 6 of 7 three-pointers. Gabe Awbrey finished with 21 points and Alex Mitura added 12 points for MCC.

MCC will be back on the road on Tuesday to take on Calvary University.
