MCC Ends Semester With a Win

Manhattan, KS - The MCC men's basketball ended first semester on a high note by knocking off Baptist Bible College, 104-94. This was the second meeting of the year between these two teams, Baptist Bible had handled MCC in the first meeting posting a 110-85 victory. In this meeting the Thunder were able to get off to strong start, they were paced on the offensive end by Gabe Awbrey and Alex Mitura in the opening half, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively. After opening up an early seven point lead, MCC saw Baptist Bible trim the advantage to 28-27 with just over seven minutes left in the opening half. However by halftime MCC would stretch the lead out to 50-40.

In the second half MCC continued their strong play and stretched the lead out to 72-53 with about 11 minutes remaining in the game. Baptist Bible continued to show their offensive prowess and was able to cut the lead to 94-88 with three minutes left in the game. From there however MCC was able to take care of the basketball and hit their free throws to come away with the victory. "I thought this was probably the best game we played all semester. We did some good things offensively, and even though we gave up 94 points I thought our defense was solid. Baptist Bible has some very good offensive players and they hit some tough shots so I wasn't disappointed in that. Hopefully we can build on this as we head into second semester," commented Coach Condra.

Gabe Awbrey led the way for MCC finishing with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Mitura finished with 22 points and Nate Awbrey scored 15 points and had a team-high 14 rebounds.

MCC will be back in action January 2 when they head to the Cookson Hills Classic in Kansas, OK.
