Men Knock Off Union

Manhattan, KS - The MCC men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season by defeating Union College, 86-72. In the opening few minutes of the game MCC came out flat and found themselves having only scored two points in the first four minutes of the game. Following a timeout MCC responded with an 8-0 run to give them a lead they would never relinquish. Alex Mitura led MCC in the first half scoring 12 points while Braydon Powell chipped in with 10 points, to help MCC to a 44-26 lead.

The second half saw MCC get off to a slow start as well and the Warriors trimmed the lead to 52-40. This was fueled by Union's hot shooting from deep, they would connect on 9 of 16 three point attempts in the half. MCC would be able to stretch the lead back out to twenty-one points before settling for the final margin of 86-72. Powell led the way for MCC with 19 points and 9 rebounds, Mitura had 16 points for the game, and Zach Smalley and Jordon Davis each reached double figures with 11 points.

"It was nice to pick up a win, but I was disappointed in the fact that we didn't play consistently throughout the game. We struggled with turnovers on the night (23 total) and we weren't sharp defensively," commented Coach Condra. MCC will complete a busy week as they play three straight games on the road Wednesday, Thursday and Friday againts Southwestern College, Central Christian (KS) and Baptist Bible College.
