MCC Drops Road Game at Kansas Christian

Overland Park, KS - The MCC men's basketball team went on the road and lost a Southwest Region matchup with the Falcons of Kansas Christian College, 84-78. KCC opened up a close game about eight minutes into the contest and pulled out to a 21-9 lead. MCC responded with a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to 22-16. The Falcons responed with a run of their own and stretched their advantage out to 31-16. The Thunder didn't fold and by halftime had cut the deficit to 42-37 on the strength of a Chelvin Webb three-pointer at the halftime buzzer.

The second half saw MCC come out and score the first eight points of the half to give them their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. The lead seesawed back and forth as neither team held an advantage of more than four points until Kansas was able to open up a late lead of 77-70 and that was too much for the Thunder to overcome. Zach Smalley led MCC with 17 points, he was key to the opening surge of the second half connecting a couple of three-pointers. Daton Aaron had 16 points, Webb chipped in with 13 points and Jordon Davis added 11 points.

"While I was disappointed that we lost, I was pleased that we kept competing after trailing by double digits two times in the first half. We still struggled to take care of the ball and missed a lot of scoring opportunities insided, but I did see some things that are encouraging signs for us moving forward," commented Coach Condra.

MCC will close out the semester next week with two more road games and then home game against Baptist Bible College on December 7.
