MCC Men Lose Three Straight

Manhattan, KS - The MCC men's basketball team went on the road for three straight games last week and dropped all three contests. The men opened their road trip on Wednesday at Southwestern College in Winfielf. Early on the game was a tight contest with MCC trailing only 16-12 about eight minutes into the contest. However from therer Southwestern would finish the half on a 35-7 run to take a commanding 51-19 lead. The Moundbuilders continued to roll in the second half on their way to the 98-48 victory. Alex Mitura and Zach Smalley led the way for MCC with 11 points each.

The second leg of the trip pitted MCC against Central Christian College in McPherson, KS. The Thunder came out with more fight than they had the night before and the game was close throughout most of the first half, but late in the half Central stretched the lead and at halftime they held a 52-37 advantage. In the second half MCC struggled offensively and Central played well on their way to the 107-68 victory. Daton Aaron and Braydon Powell led the way for MCC with 20 points apiece.

The final game of the road trip saw MCC take on Baptist Bible College (in McPherson). MCC was close with Patriots early but with BBC spreading them out and driving to the hole and knocking down timely three-point attempts the Patriots had a 50-39 halftime lead. In the second half MCC could never close the gap and BBC rolled to the 110-85 win. Aaron again led the way with 16 points, while Powell chipped in with 15 points. Smalley added 13 points and Chelvin Webb rounded out the double figure scorers for MCC with 12 points.

"I was disappointed in how we played this week, not necessarily because we lost but because our lack of effort and discipline. We turned the ball over too much and we did not keep our opponents off the offensive glass. These things are correctable but we will need to work hard in practice and be committed to making some changes in how we play when we step on the floor," commented Head Coach Shawn Condra.

MCC is back in action this week with three games on the road.
