Men Fall to McPherson

Manahattan, KS - The MCC men's basketball team opened up their season with a 90-73 loss at home to the McPherson Bulldogs. MCC got off to a hot start in the game as they opened up an early 13-2 lead. However the Bulldogs regrouped and responded with a 18-2 run to give them a lead that they would never relinquish. At the half McPherson led 47-31. Early in the second half McPherson streteched their lead out to over 20 points, but MCC made one last run and cut the lead back to 74-62. That would be as close as MCC would get and McPherson held on for the win.

Newcomer Zach Smalledy led the way for MCC with 14 points. Trayveon Smith came off the bench and added 12 points, while Daton Aaron chipped in with 11 points and Alex Mitura rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points.  "After we took that early lead, we struggled on both ends of the floor and that certainly allowed McPherson to take control of the game. We need to develop more consistency on both ends of the floor and we need to establish a presence inside on offense and we need to do a better job of rebounding," commented Head Coach Shawn Condra.

MCC will be back on the road this weekend in Oklahoma as they take on Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma Christian University in two exhibition games.
