Manhattan Christian College Thunder now:

The Thunder head into the National Tournament with 25-9 record on the season, including a mark of 20-3 in the second half of the season (2016). They have been on a tear in the new year, and with the addition of a true point guard in sophomore Sterling Turner at the conclusion of the Cookson Hills Classic in Kansas, OK the Thunder have been nearly unstoppable.

With their three losses in 2016 coming only to ranked teams (#10 Dallas Christian College [Cookson Hills Classic], #1 Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (OK), #10 Barclay College (KS) ) the Thunder have been able to string together a slew of impressive wins both at home and on the road.

In the 23 game span, the Thunder have outscored their opponents by 17 points per game, with their defensive prowess they have been able to defeat teams handily, including just one victory that finished with a final score within double-digits at Baptist Bible College February 13, 88-84. Defense has been a focus for the Thunder all season, but is something they struggled with early on. They have continued to work on improving this aspect of the game as a team, and have only allowed opponents to score 76 points a game since the start of play in 2016.

Despite the team oriented approach MCC has implemented, they have been able to experience the success they have in large part thanks to great individual play alongside great play as a unit.

Senior Will Chisam has continued to grow throughout his career at MCC, and has seemed to reach his peak performance level at the right time. Chisam is averaging 16.2 PGG dominating the paint in all aspects as he has racked in 7.4 RPG. Another bright spot for the Thunder is sophomore Sterling Turner who joined the team prior to The Cookson Hills Classic. In just 18 games he is averaging 12.2 PPG, and filling the stat sheet elsewhere averaging 4.6 ASP, 4.5 RPG, and 3.4 SPG.

The Thunder traveled to Barclay College (Haviland, KS) on February 9 for their second to last conference matchup as the postseason loomed ahead. The Barclay Bears were ranked #10 in the nation at the time, and were able to pull off the upset of the second ranked Thunder, knocking them out of contention for a regular season championship.

Since the loss in early February, the Thunder have been on a tear including an upset of #1 Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in their final home game at City Auditorium in Manhattan. As far as postseason play the Thunder have yet to be tested as they defeated all three opponents in the MCCC tournament by 20 or more points. They then headed into regional play and coasted through the Central Regional tournament defeating Baptist Bible College (Springfield, MO) 94-81, and Central Christian College of the Bible 94-80 to win the 2016 MCCC Tournament.

The Thunder were then rewarded for their successful season thus far by recieving the #2 seed in the 2016 NCCAA DII National Tournament, to be held in Ankeny, IA March 9-12.
