COVID-19 Update: A Letter from President Ingram

Dear MCC Students,

You are important to me and I am praying for you daily!

We find ourselves in unprecedented times that are changing rapidly. The decisions being made at all levels are important and have the goal to protect the citizens of the USA and all nations of the world. Each step is being taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help lessen and eliminate the impact this virus can have.

Our goal at MCC is the same - to do all we can to protect all students, faculty, staff, and their families. We believe it is best for us to abide by all the advice and directives given by those in the medical community and in authority over us.

Based on all we have been learning, I am emailing to let you know the decisions that have been made regarding the remainder of the semester.

As of Monday, March 23rd we will resume offering classes and all classes will be offered online for the remainder of the semester.

Dr. Delort and our faculty are working hard to convert our in-person classes to an online format. Obviously that will bring some changes, and they are working on the details with the goal to help you finish strong. Be looking for more information on what the rest of the semester will look like academically at the latest by this Friday, March 20th.

In relation to that - MCC Residence Halls will be closing. We are currently working on a plan so this can be done in an organized and safe fashion for everyone involved. The details regarding that process will come from our Student Life office by Thursday, March 19th at noon. Please wait to receive that detailed announcement before you make any plans to come back to campus.

To our Seniors, we have not cancelled Commencement as of yet, although I am sad to say we may have to end up doing so. We will be closely following the directives from the authorities and abiding by them, while at the same time doing all we can to honor you and  all of your hard work.

Other questions that I am sure have arisen such as housing and dining refunds, advising for the fall semester, financial aid, work study, Camp Teams, library books, and others will be addressed over the next few weeks as we figure out the best way to move forward in each of those items specifically. We want to make sure we get it right, so I humbly ask for your patience.

I miss you all! It reminds me that one of our greatest strengths is our community and that we need to do all we can to keep us all connected. Not only will I be regularly communicating updated information with you as we have it, I have also been in touch with STUGOV President Dionne Timken and he affirmed the STUGOV team has also been thinking in this way, too. Together, we will make the best of this challenging time.

Bottom line, I am saddened we are in this situation and I had every hope we would be able to finish our semester together on campus. However, let’s do our part to make the best of this and live out our theme for the year - love. While challenging, this is also a great opportunity to fulfill that theme!

Love you all,

J. Kevin Ingram
