Ecclessia Sweeps Thunder

Manhattan, KS - The Thunder were swept by Ecclessia College at home on Friday 3/25. The double header for Saturday 3/26 was cancelled due to rain.
 
Game One:
 
Thunder lost 12-11 on Friday after a surprise rally turned Thunder 8-1 lead into an Ecclesia College victory in Manhattan, Kansas. Ben Rankin had a hot bat for Thunder. Rankin went 3-5, drove in one and scored three runs. He singled in the first and second innings and doubled in the third inning. Madison Bates got the win for Ecclesia College despite allowing seven runs over one inning. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered nine hits. Ecclesia College got to the Thunder pitching as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, seven RBIs and 12 runs scored. Rankin took the loss for Thunder. He lasted four innings in relief after taking over for Gerardo Questell in the fourth innng, he walked none, struck out seven, and allowed three runs. Ecclesia College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Aaron Means kicked things off for Ecclesia College with a single. Thunder scored four runs of its own in the first. Thunder scored on an RBI double by Emmanuel Otero, an RBI single by Joshua Sanabria, an RBI single by Seth Throckmorton, and an RBI single by Jamison Huffman. Ecclesia College got three-run rallies in the third inning and the seventh. In the third, Ecclesia College scored on a three-run home run by Robbie Rodgriguez, plating Joey Dawes and Alec Walker. Ecclesia College stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the seventh, scoring three runs on an RBI single by Matt Garrison.
 
Game Two:
 
A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Thunder fell to Ecclesia College 3-1 in seven innings on Friday. Seth Throckmorton got a hit in each of his three at bats. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the second and seventh innings. Taylor Burnett recorded the win for Ecclesia College. He allowed one run over seven innings. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered eight hits. Isaiah Katherein took the loss on the mound for Thunder, taking a loss. He lasted seven innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed three runs. The top of the first saw Ecclesia College take an early lead, 1-0. The lone run of the game for Thunder crossed the plate in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Matthew Zecha. The lead stayed with Ecclesia College after the sixth, when it scored two runs on an RBI double by JT Stalnaker and an RBI single by Aaron Means.
 
"The first one was tough to lose having blown an 8-1 lead. I was really proud of the way the team bounced back from a disheartening loss. I thought Isaiah Katherein pitched a heck of a ball game but we just struggled to get our bats going. We will keep working" commented Head Coach Jimmy McDonald
